Somra El Nubia has a style all her own. Known for her lightning speed shimmies, she always gets the crowd going. Through mixing North and West African dance, she has developed a style all her own that will imprint an inspiring memory on your mind that will last a lifetime. She is a must-see!

Somra El Nubia began dancing under the direction of Clara Brooks at Elmwood
Elementary in St. Louis, MO during the late 60s. Somra performed with Mrs. Brooks' group "The Crumb Crunchers" for a St. Louis show known as the "St. Louis Hop." Later, because of her love of dance, she took interest in Middle Eastern Dance. She then studied under the direction of Anne Marie of University City, MO. and later began studying under Simone Prouty in the late 70s.

Somra El Nubia continues to study and teach. She provides private lessons from her home and also instructs at the West Florissant YMCA. Somra has performed at various festivals in many cities and around the St. Louis area. Somra also studies West African under the direction of Artie Hamilton, "Spirit of Angela."

Somra gives thanks to all of her teachers and is thankful for all she has learned.
