Sariyah first saw bellydance in 2001 when her husband was stationed in Bahrain. Two months later, a friend asked her to take a class and she couldn’t refuse. After moving back to the U.S. in 2005, Sariyah trained with Rajaa of Saraab in Pensacola, Fla., from there she has continued her training by studying the styles of Mardi Love, Delacy and Shauna C. Sariyah believes bellydance is an artform that anyone can do for fun or fitness, as well as a dance that can be admired on the stage. She also loves the idea that bellydance has long been credited for accepting women of any age or size. “To me, bellydance is not about technique alone, but about becoming empowered in our own skin and using the energy of our bodies to express who we are as women,” says Sariyah. Sariyah is also a principal dancer of Chuvani Bellydance of St. Louis. She is trained in Egyptian Cabaret and American Tribal Style bellydance and gracefully blends these methods into her own style of dance which is full of precision and innovation. She is also instructor of Tandava Tribal Bellydance which focuses strictly on the American Tribal Style of bellydance. http://www.atsbellydancestl.com
