Marie DeMars

soloist and instructor

Marie began her dance journey in 1999 when she stumbled into Kawakib's Intermediate Bellydance class in Woodbridge, Virginia. Immediately she was entranced. She then progressed in her exploration from traditional styles of bellydance into American Tribal and Tribal Fusion. She first danced with Massive Tassel Bellydance and West of Marrakesh from 2004-2007, then later formed the Persian Reconnaissance Project (later to be renamed Anahita Tribal Fusion), and eventually joined forces with Kansas City's premier dance and aerial fusion ensemble Quixotic in 2008.

Eventually, she became a soloist who has been said to have a style that is all her own. Her watery movements are amazing and mesmerizing while her body alignment and pose are poetry in motion.

Marie's natural curiosity and sense of adventure has led her over the years to experiment in other dance styles such as: Swing, Bharata Natyam, Flamenco, African dance, and Ballet; as well as hooping and Aerial dance. Marie says: "My dark whimsical aesthetic informs both my dance and my visual fine arts. I seek to create the creation of an interior world in which people can fly and faery roam the Great Plains."
