Jennifer Carter Jennifer Carter first saw bellydancing as a child at the Texas Renaissance Festival. It was there that she purchased her first pair of zills, also known as finger cymbals, determined to someday learn. Her background includes jazz, tap and ballet from her youth. Then at age18, she began bellydance lessons. Shortly after, she began performing in both group and solo numbers to both live and recorded music. Her style has been said to "command attention" while at times presenting an "athletic ability" that wows and amazes audiences. Jennifer has studied with numerous local Austin instructors and is heavily influenced by the dancer Almaazah. She regularly participates in workshops with nationally known dancers and continues to take private lessons from established dancers. Her dance philosophy is to to grow as a dancer and to use dance as a form of rejuvenation. Along those lines, Jennifer also teaches dance workshops that combine her passion for the dance with an understanding of feminist theory that stems from her career as an advocate for women involved in domestic and sexual violence.
